EGR valve failure on Audi A3
We had loss of power on our Audi A3 recently. The coil and DPF warning lights came on at the same time. We called the RAC and they reported "Air mass flow during regeneration too high" and told us to drive it on the motorway at above 2000rpm for about 20-30 miles. We did this, but it didn't fix the problem.
We took it to a local garage and they charged £700 to fix the EGR value. However, after the work was done, they said the turbo has failed. They wanted another £1700 to rectify this.
We took it some where else and got recondition one fitted. My problem is that I m finding it difficult to believe the EGR valve was gone as it doesn't look that clogged up inside. They did claim that the error code cleared. How do I know that they may have misdiagnosed? Also is the EGR valve linked to turbo?

The turbo will have failed because the engine was regularly switched off when the turbo was too hot and the turbo bearing oil feed and oil return pipes became clogged with carbon. Fairly normal for a VAG TDI to need either a new EGR or the EGR cleaning out (they are fragile and can break while trying to clean them). Would not surprise me if the sump strainer was also partially blocked with oil sludge.
