Buying a small auto for temporary use?

My wife broke her leg 5 months ago and can no longer drive a manual car.
I have a new Landrover on order but the leadtime is 5 months.

I would like to buy a small automatic for <£4K which I can sell again in 6mths time and minimise any loss. The car will only do around 4000 miles in that time.

Whats the easiest car to buy and sell which is a real automatic and what should I look for?

Buying now is the market peak. 6 moths time is the market trough. So you can't win. Probably won't get a Hyundai i10 1.2 auto for £4k. Will get an old shape KIA Picanto auto. Might get a Nissan Pixo or Suzuki Alto auto, as they are torque converter, like the i10 and Picanto. Avoid DSGs and automated manuals. A Jazz CVT-7 will be old for £4k.

Cheap to buy new, low CO2 emissions and high economy mean it's cheap to run. Available with an automatic gearbox. Nicer seats than near identical Suzuki Alto.
Cute little small hatch clone offering low emissions, low tax, good fuel economy and a proper 4-speed automatic option. Decent to drive.
