Which luxury estate car?

I am looking to buy an Audi A4 or A6 Avant, or a BMW 3 or 5 Series Touring. I wondered if you had a strong opinions which is the best value for money and most practical?

I have a 1 yr old son and am looking for something that I can fit all the gear in comfortably.

That's a significant variation of size, age and price. Depends on the engine, but assuming they are all 2.0 litre diesels then the best car here is the F11 5-Series. If they are 3.0 litre diesels, then the Avant may be a quattro 4WD and might pip the BMW for that reason.
