Buying a family car for £10,000

You have previously given advice for our daughter, who has lived in Thailand for several years. Now she, her Thai partner and their baby son will live in the UK.

They need a car that is safe, has easy access to back seats, a good sized boot and easy fitment of approved child seat. They have a budget of £10,000 and she is looking at BMW 1 Series - she believes that she must have some street cred! What is your advice/suggestions please?

They are okay on 16" wheels with 205/55 tyres. Hard ride on bigger wheels. Not very roomy inside, but at least you can get them with 5 doors.
