buying on a budget - what would you recommend?

My beloved Volvo V40 is on its last legs but as I am on a really tight budget of £10K max. what could you recommend that can accommodate a large dog - preferably without having to collapse the rear seats as I sometimes need to transport the grandchildren and the dog. The car should cope with a minimum of two 10 mile round trips every day plus some long distance motorway driving. I do not want an automatic but would like something that can go up very steep hills with a heavy dog in the back without me getting out to push!
