Accident management company provided a Mercedes credit hire car - is this normal?
A friend of mine was involved in an accident last week. She was stationary in a line of traffic when an elderly gentleman ran into the back of her car, resulting in a domino effect with another three cars involved. Her boyfriend has put the matter into the hands of an Accident Management Company and her own insurance company has not been informed.
Her car was a seven-year-old Golf which was in good condition with only 33,000 miles and, as I understand, it has been written off. The AMC has provided my friend with a huge Mercedes-Benz in the meantime. I shuddered when I head this. Could you please advise on her best course of action?

Three completely wrong choices. Firstly, she has to inform her own insurer. Secondly, the 'accident management outfit' was a bad idea. And thirdly, instead of 'mitigating her expenses' they have put her into a hugely expensive credit hire car. The other party's insurer will be well within its rights to refuse to pay for this. So she may well have to.
