Is there a way I can tax my car early?
I am going to the United States this week and will be out of the UK when my car tax expires at the end of next month. The DVLA website details a procedure to get a tax disc early - write a letter, complete a V10 and take it to a DVLA office with your registration document and certificate of motor insurance. I did this but a member of staff at the DVLA told me not to worry about it, and to just renew my tax disc when I get back.
So, for a period of at least seven days my car will not be displaying a valid tax disc. I feel very uncomfortable about this. I could submit a SORN, but this would mean my husband could not drive my car to meet me at the station on my return. What do you suggest?

What I would do is renew the tax online a month early. It costs me an extra £2.50 for an extra month’s tax. I can live with that.
