My keyfob is suffering interference - what could be causing it?

I discovered that my car keys worked normally away from my house, but not close to it. I infer that there is some kind of local interference weakening the signal from the key to the car, possibly RF. There are references to this on the internet. My key worked properly on my return home this evening so the interference has stopped - for now.

Can happen. The 400mhz frequency for car remotes can be swamped. It might be something like a neighbour's Taiwanese wireless electronic door chimes that don't conform to the EC Directive on electronic interference.
