Which SUV for towing caravans?

At present I am a 72-year-old Motability customer and am shortly due to hand back my Volvo XC90 after three years. I am now considering buying my own vehicle as I only do 5000 miles a year. The two vehicles I have in mind are a Volvo XC60 D4 SE Lux (163PS) Nav with Geartronic or a BMW X3 2.0d SE. I will be towing a caravan also.

Due to my medical condition I find it difficult to get in and out of conventional saloon cars, therefore an SUV or MPV would have to be my choice of vehicle. I would appreciate your thoughts on both vehicles.

The XC60 is nice, but the X3 2.0d is better and more economical: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/volvo/volvo-xc60-2.../ honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/bmw/bmw-x3-f25-2010-road-test/

A new Honda CR-V is now in production at Swindon: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/honda/cr-v-2012/ and it’s also worth considering a Skyactiv Mazda CX-5: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/mazda/mazda-cx-5-2.../
