Which five-door car for £8500 for a young family?

For seven years I have owned a Toyota Celica and I love it. However, we have been lucky enough to have a baby girl and practically the Celica no longer works. I would like a five-door that's fun to drive and has a large boot for a pram and golf clubs, possibly a Civic or Golf. I have around £8500 to spend, I drive under 10,000 miles per annum, and would prefer a petrol car. Could you please give me your advice on potential purchases?

A pre-2012 Civic 1.8i makes the most sense. It is incredibly commodious and has a versatile interior (like a bigger Jazz), is very reliable (second fewest Warranty Direct claims) and I got 45mpg out of one on a long run, so it’s not too juicy either.
