Why did VOSA take my boat trailer off the road after temperature-checking the brakes?
A reader recently wrote of the ridiculously heavy-handed way some VOSA inspectors check on MoT stations. Your readers might be interested in how the VOSA checks boat trailers. In July this year I was pulled off the A35 in Dorset. The VOSA technician took the ambient air temperature at 23C. He then pointed his temp gauge at the four hubs, reading 24C and deemed that as there was only one degree difference the brakes were not working. A ten-day prohibition order was issued. No checking by means of the hand brake.
