Drift? Would?
I last wrote to you 8 years ago when I was looking to buy an automatic to commute into central Manchester. I didn’t want to sell my Audi TT Roadster and you recommended a Toyota Corolla, which has been thoroughly reliable for the last 8 years and has now done 40k miles.
I still have the Audi, but now longer commute and am looking to sell at least the Toyota, and maybe both cars. I’d like something new or nearly new. I do a 100 miles trip every week or so, but the rest of my journeys are usually less than 10 miles each way. I have a budget of up £30k or so and have been looking at the Toyota GT86, but wonder what else you might recommend? Ideally, looking for another automatic, but not essential.

The GT86 is a fairly pure sportscar - all high revs and drifting. There is an automatic version with paddleshifts. But if you're not into flinging the back out you might not like it because it doesn't have much mid-range torque and, despite 200PS, doesn't feel fast unless you drive it quite hard. Test and video: honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-gt86-2012-road-test// I love it, but that doesn’t mean you will.
