Creaky dashboard

We have a 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLC 180. We've had it for about 18 months on a three year contract with Mercedes-Benz of Bath. We are very pleased with it except for one thing: the dashboard trim creaks all the time except when on the motorway when we probably just don't notice it.

It is quite loud and very irritating in what should be a quality car with 40,000 miles on the clock. Is this a common fault and can it be fixed?

It can, but could be very expensive or at worst impossible to cure because of the amount of fiddly dismantling involved.
