I want to replace my Mazda 323 - what do you recommend?

I'd like to change my car but I don't know what to go for. I currently drive a 2001 Mazda 323 2-litre diesel which I've had since it was six months old. I commute to work using A-roads, motorways and urban roads. Can you suggest an economical car with similar performance to my Mazda? I'd like to purchase something around two years old.

I suggest another Mazda, but this time a Mazda 3 and a comparatively recent one with the 115PS 8v 1.6-litre diesel engine, which works much better than the previous 110PS 16v 1.6-litre diesel.
