Are accident management companies pushing up insurance premiums?

No wonder insurances are increasing fast. The major problem appears to be caused by the insurers, whilst uninsured drivers no doubt bear a considerable part. My granddaughter had an accident on her motorbike that did not appear to be her fault. Immediately she was offered a replacement bike (she thought by her insurers) and was contacted by a no-win solicitor. The bike hire company was owned by her insurers and the solicitors (who clearly stated that they would be paying her insurance company £800 as an introductory fee) had the same directors as her insurance company. She was offered settlement by the other party’s insurers and agreed a value as write off value. When she told the bike hire company that she did not require the bike any longer, they insisted she keep the bike until she received the cheque in payment. It appears the insurer will receive more money from these activities than from her insurance policy (her policy was £500).

This is the same accident mismanagement and credit hire scam that I have been condemning for the past five years. Government has woken up to it, but whether it will actually do anything is anyone's guess.
