Is rising oil level a symptom of a DPF fault?

In September 2010 we bought a new Skoda Yeti diesel. All was well for a few months, then the diesel particulate filter light started coming on. We had the filter cleared professionally but it happened again. We also noticed that the oil level was too high on more than one occasion. Why is this happening? Can you please advice us on how we can make sure the car does not keep breaking down and is repaired under warranty?

Despite your 14,000 miles a year, this would normally indicate that you are not driving the car far enough or at high enough engine speeds. A succession of short runs from cold starts will clog the DPF, then the extra fuel injected into the engine for the active regeneration will sink into the sump, raising the oil level. Either take the car for more long runs, or sell it and buy a 1.2TSI or 1.4TSI petrol model.
