Why does my Hyundai's ISG keep failing?
I bought a new Hyundai ix20 in May 2011. The ISG (Intelligent Stop and Go) stopped working after ten days and since then it's been back to the garage half a dozen times to be fixed. Each time, the car comes back with the ISG either still not working or temporarily working, only to fail again after a few days. The garage always comes up with a different excuse why it is not working including, in the latest instance, that it will not operate when the outside temperature is low, as it is at the moment. I am aware that this is one of several instances listed in the manual when the ISG will not operate, but I have no doubt that when the temperature rises it will still not work. Please let me know what my rights are and how long I am supposed to let this continue.

ISG does not generally work on any car at below four degrees centigrade because of the battery drain from restarting an engine at such low temperatures. It also does not work until the car engine is fully up to temperature and the charge in the battery from the initial start of the car is restored, so if the car is repeatedly used for short runs from cold, the ISG will not work. It is not designed to.
