How can I disable the alarm on my Subaru Forester while in storage?

I have a Subaru Forester with a factory-fitted Category 1 alarm/immobiliser. We will be leaving the car for six weeks in a secure garage but I am worried that the alarm will run down the battery. There doesn't seem to be any way of not setting the alarm. So could I disconnect the battery? Will there be problems with the immobiliser when I reconnect it?

Hook the car up to a battery conditioning trickle charger.
