Diesel pump failure killed my Note

My 6 yr old fully serviced Nissan Note 1.5DCI, with 70K miles refused to start.

It has gone to the garage and the diesel pump has failed, pushing metal swarf into the injectors.

Is this a common problem and is it reasonable that these two items should fail at this mileage? I have run plenty of diesels in the past and never come across this before.

I have had to scrap the car as the cost of repair was greater than the value of the car.

Probably caused by bad fuel with low lubricity, or an accidental fill with petrol.
