Engine cutting out on a Golf?

I hire cars every week for between 2 and 4 days.
I get to drive quite a different variety of cars, but my favourite of late is the Volkswagen Golf automatic.
Last week I had one from Wednesday to Sunday.

I drove to work on Thursday in Leatherhead Surrey from Watford on the M25 and shortly after I left at junction 9, the engine cut out and a display "ESC" appeared. It then crept along at about 1mph.

I stopped it, changed into neutral, switched off the ignition and re-started it and carried on.

That evening on the way back, it happened 3-more times on the M25, fortunately at slow speeds due to congestion.

The interesting thing is that the following morning, it happened in exactly the same place just off the M25, within about 5-yards, as on the previous day.
It did not happen again after that.

Some people put forward the theory that this was due to some radio signal or suchlike affecting the central computer chip in the same location.

What do you make of this?

There is a well known fault with the brake pressure sensor inside the ABS/ESP module.

Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
