Can I get this deposit back?

May I ask your advice on how to approach getting back my £500 deposit paid on 2nd January. This was towards the purchase of a 2009 Subaru outback. Due to an unexpected change in domestic circumstances I had to cancel the order and did this the following morning (within 24 hours).

No cost or inconvenience was caused to the dealership (the car was still listed on internet sites) but they have refused to refund my deposit. I am aware that I unilaterally cancelled a contract but in your experience can I have any redress for what I consider was unfair treatment?
