What used car for a nurse with space for a dog?
We own a VW Passat Estate, diesel, with 130,000 plus miles on the clock. Soon it may have to go. We would like to buy a secondhand car which has the same carrying capacity, can fit a dog in the 'boot' and will give a good travelling experience when we traverse the UK to see relatives.
Also, importantly my wife is a District Nurse and uses the car for her visits to patients.
Which vehicle would you suggest? Are we looking for the Holy Grail?

Not a diesel with a diesel particulate filter. Petrol, preferably small turbo petrol, best.
