DPF problems on a Mondeo

The car is used mainly for "shopping". Engine malfunction display and warning light came on and the car has lost power. 25 minutes run on motorway at more than 2000RPM has made no difference. How do I reset the indications? I am assuming the car has a "limp home mode" hence the loss of power, if so does it reset to normal automatically when the particulate filter is regenerated?

Wrong car to use "mainly for shopping". A diesel with a DPF is unsuitable for this.
