MoT test failure confusion
My car recently failed it's MoT and the main failure was the thickness off the pads being below 1.5mm.
I arranged for the garage to fix all failure points so I would have a free partial re-test. So 2 days later I take my car in for the repairs and within minutes all four wheels were off and they were showing me "extra" work that needed doing. They were right that the things they were showing me needed doing, but they agreed with me that as the rear had already passed it was not needed for the MoT pass.
The front discs had bad scuffing and mid stage rust on the inner side. They said they would NOT pass my car unless they were replaced. My argument is that, had I carried out the work myself, there would have been no need for the wheels to come off and thus they would not have seen the discs. The car had presumably already passed the roller test. So if this part of the test is only visual + performance, what they had seen with my wheel off whilst doing repairs should have no bearing on the MoT surely?

The time allowed for an MoT test does not allow for removal of wheels. You are not being ripped off here. The garage has found something that is unsafe and needs to be replaced.
