Repairing a faulty Focus instrument cluster

A while ago my wife's Ford Focus 1.8TDCI 2004 started having the battery light come on when restarting. It happened a few times over a period of months. Now it is coming on every time when starting from cold along with the transmission light, engine warning light, glow plug light, the mileage displays dashes.

Once the car has warmed up these stay off. The garage fitted a new alternator yesterday. No problem when picked up from garage but this morning lights coming back on.

Well it would appear that you have a problem with the instrument cluster(a known fault) and one we would have thought that the garage would have checked before they renewed the Alternator.

You could try (by removing the cluster) and look at the green electric board. If you can see black marks, then you could try using cotton buds and a electrical contact cleaner to remove all marks(both sides of the board)

If you don't want to do that then, other than paying for a replacement, (rather expensive) you could remove the console and send it to www.ecutesting.com, who will carry out a complete check and also carry out any repairs.
