A replacement part has damaged my engine
GSF car spares supplied me with a replacement expansion tank for my car, and also a screw cap to go with it and some anti-freeze. This was done by me checking the stock online and going to my local branch where my car reg was re-checked.
The man serving asked if my filler cap was blue, which it was. The part was supplied and I fitted it quickly and easily, topped up the coolant, ran the engine with the cap off and the level was topped up again.
I took the car for a run, and on my way home the temp gauge went from normal to maximum in a matter of a few seconds, with warning lights and beepers. I stopped immediately and found high pressure in the expansion tank, when I was able to release some of the pressure the coolant level dropped to normal as did temp gauge. Repeated this 3 times in 3 miles.
Inspection upon returning home revealed the thinnest spout return hose connection appears normal but inside it narrows to a pinhead size.
Hence high pressure etc. This car never overheated before.
Now refitted the old one. My car is needing a litre of water adding every ten miles. Not overheating now but white smoke and reduced smoothness on acceleration.
Should this company be responsible for supplying me with this part? I need my car back how it was!
