Buying a replacement (Volvo V70 T5) family estate car whjich is good in snow and MPG. What would you recommend?

Looking to replace my expensive (19mpg) Volvo V70 T5 (53 plate) with a comparable estate car 2008 onwards. Need massive boot space and good clearance and good in snowy conditions. Been looking at the Subaru Legacy/Outback, Skoda Superb, Volvo XC70. Any advice and other options welcome. Fun to drive but safe. Automatic preferred. Dont like Audi! Have a max budget of £16000.
Many thanks, Rory
