Turbo lag in my Caddy
We purchased a new VW Caddy Maxi 1.6 TD great vehicle, but we have a safety concern and that is between tick over and 1500rpm (when turbo kicks in) the is a very noticeable lack of power. This is really noticeable when approaching a junction slip into second gear, still rolling you spot a gap then put your foot down to pull out... not a lot happens... until revs reach 1500, then you have enough power to take off!
Took it back to VW and they said this is normal ?? Wondered if anybody else has come across this with VW?

This used to be a characteristic of turbodiesels that has mostly been electronically tuned out of them. I guess the problem with the Caddy Maxi is its size and weight hauled along by a tiddly little diesel engine that doesn't develop significant torque at low revs.
Haven't noticed it on VAG cars with this engine. Be careful not to slip the clutch to raise the revs or you will then get DMF and clutch problems.
