Skoda Fabia or something else?

We are currently looking for a new car for my wife, she currently has a Nissan Note 1.5 dCi which she is very happy with but she does 24k a year and the the mileage is getting rather high now.

We are looking at changing her car for either a Skoda Fabia 1.2 Greenline or a 1.6 TDI Elegence 105ps. She does the majority of her commute on the motorway and easily achieves 58mpg from the Nissan at motorway speeds.

Which of these cars would you recommend - the Greenline is meant to be far more efficient but will it be at 70mph? The main reason for looking at the Skoda is the VAT back offer which makes the price incredibly competitive compared with other cars although we have looked at several models from other manufacturers, would there be any car you would recommend over the Fabia?

Feedback on Skodas and VAG diesels isn't as good as it should be, so I don't "recommend" them. If it has to be diesel, then a Toyota Yaris 1.4D-4D or a KIA Rio 1.1 diesel.
