Bumpy ride on skinny tyres

My Skoda Superb SE is spoiled by hard ride on 17-inch wheels with 225/45 tyres. I've been advised to go for 225/50 tyres. Is this a good idea?

the 16" size should be 205/55 R16 or 205/60 R16.
