Cold Starting problem

I've had my Fabia vRS estate since February and it has been great until recently. When cold in a morning (5deg or less), I try to start the car - the dash lights up as usual, but when I turn on the ignition, nothing happens. It does not even try to turn over.

There is a message on the dash saying 'Please select Park or Neutral', but it's already in Park. (even says 'P' in top right of display!) I tried moving it to neutral - nothing, back to park- still nothing. Keep trying a few times then give up. Come back 10 mins later and it starts straight away.

Once started its fine it only happens the first time on a cold morning.

I took it to the local garage and explained the problem, they had it twice all day and said they were getting an update from germany for the on board computer, but later said they tried starting it several times and it was fine. Which it would be as it only happens from cold.

I tried searching google and owner forums but got no hits so i guess I am on my own with this?

That was at the begining of november, its been pretty mild up to yesterday when I couldn't get the car started at all and called out the AA. He couldn't find the problem either and eventually after trying it did start but too late for my appointment that day.
It's a company car which I need because I travel for work and this is becoming a real problem!
Please help!
