Volkswagen DPF issue
I've been advised to replace the DPF filter on my 2006 Passat by Volkswagen for a price of £1850 - but I am not convinced that this will improve matters.
The car went into limp-home mode in July, and my local Volkswagen dealer said that the DPF filter was 90% full, and couldn't regenerate. I took it to another local garage, who changed a sensor and regenerated filter. I then drove it for three months with no problems, then the warning lights came on, and again the car went into limp mode.
The local garage had a Volkswagen specialist look at it - who then performed another regeneration. But although the filter was absolutely clear, the warning lights came on again after 20 miles. So, I don't know what to do.
I have read on the Internet about people who've had their filters replaced, only for problems to continue - plus I think £1850 is over the odds. Am not keen to remove filter, due to MoT and insurance issues.

Very common. Best thing to do is get rid of the car.
