Garages can't trace the rumbling noise my Polo's making!

Two garages have returned my P-registered Polo (65,000 miles) saying they cannot trace a combination of heavy rumbling/vibration from the rear of the vehicle - particularly when stationary. The exhaust is okay, and when moving, the car drives very well - but after stopping the rumbling/vibration again sets in. Any suggestions you may have will be much appreciated.

If it's a vibration from the rear then it must be the exhaust system striking something.
