Bogus collision driver is trying to scam money out of me
Last night I drove very close to a 2001 Peugeot 306 in my Volkswagen T4 at around 3-5mph on a petrol station forecourt. I avoided it altogether, but the inebriated passenger got out and started ranting at me in an aggressive way for being 'arrogant' - I merely said I did not scratch her car.
She accused me of scratching her car (her driver was in the shop paying for fuel). She showed me her evidence of my red paint on her leftside rear bumper (my front right bumper is black plastic). She called the police and told them I was drunk (I was not), so I waited for the police to arrive. They did not turn up, but said I could leave the scene, as we had exchanged details.
I got the details of the male driver - which was a bogus address and name. They were hinting for me into settling outside of insurance claims. What can I do to stop these people making a claim against me? Was I right to take the details of the driver and not the owner (the drunk woman)?
This whole event has left me flabbergasted and down. Also the two people in the Peugeot called the police after 45 minutes and asked them not to turn up.

If you have their name and address, challenge them to sue you in the small claims track of the county court. As soon as the judge gets wind of what they are up to he will first warn them, and probably fine them, and if they push it he will send them to jail.
