Buying a demonstrator.
I wish to buy a nearly new VW Touran 2.0 TDI Sport and have found a September 2012 demonstrator that suits. The dealer says that VW requires him to have kept the car for three months as a demonstrator.
But he will sell it to me at two months old provided he keeps the registration document for an extra month. So I would be the owner and driver for a month but not the keeper. I am a bit worried about this from the insurance point of view. Is my worry needless, and the dealer's approach normal practice, or should I wait until the three months is up?

The dealer got an extra discount on the car for registering it as a demonstrator. I hope he passed that on to you? He has been upfront about the V5C so has complied with recent case law.
You need to make sure your insurer is comfortable with this because you cannot tick the box that says you are the registered keeper. You also need to be aware that any ANPR parking charge notices or traffic offence NIPs will go to the registered keeper, not to you and any delay this causes may increase the penalty.
