Faulty components
I had Koni FSD shock absorbers fitted to my Saab 9-3 Aero approximately five years (30,000 miles) ago. The car has now been sold, but the new owner reports that the piston rod associated one of the shock absorbers has snapped.
I contacted Koni on the new owner's behalf who have said that it is not a normal failure and that the warranty is not transferrable. I subsequently pointed out to Koni that this could have caused an accident but they are not interested in getting to the bottom of a failed component.
In addition Koni recommends that only the failed shock absorber be changed; the garage that the new owner has taken the car to is changing the matching pair.

Good of you to check on behalf of the new owner. There are other factors that could have caused the rod to snap, such worn or failing suspension bushes creating too much movement.
