Buying a car for mini cab private hire

I would appreciate if you could advise me of which car to buy. I will be buying a new car in few days and it will be used as a mini cab (private hire vehicle). I want to buy an automatic but not sure of buying diesel or petrol. I will be buying a used one probably 3 to 4 years old. Your suggestions will be very useful.

I am toying with either a 4-5 year old diesel estate (Mondeo/Passat-size) and using it mainly for the long distance journeys for economy, or to go for a Toyota Avensis 1.8 V-matic manual TR in Petrol....
Can you help me choose a reliable used car for taxi use with 45+mpg? My budget is £4500-£5000.
I know you like the Ford Mondeo/Estate... but I can get hold of a Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-CAT T4 5dr Auto for a lot less plus I get a longer warranty. I do a lot of miles. Thoughts?
