Newly bought A4 with gearbox issues
I have just been informed that my newly purchased Audi A4 probably needs a new gearbox! Basically the previous owner has done the dirty on me.
I took it in after the car popped out of 3rd and into neutral whilst driving along. then the dreaded PRND lights started flashing.
The garage dip tested my transmission fluid and found some bigger than 1mm bits of swarf in the fluid. The VAG test also came up with a fault on the ecu. They said it was probably not economically worth fixing.
I was thinking of taking it somewhere else for a second opinion. So does swarf larger than 1mm really mean a new gearbox? Bearing in mind the car is running perfectly fine?

Might need no more than the 6 plate clutch replaced with a 7 plate clutch. This can be done on the same shaft but a VAG dealer will tell you otherwise. Go to a member of www.fedauto.co.uk
