2004 C3 guzzling fuel and running high revs
I have a Citroen C3, which I've had since new, she's a 1.4 petrol (Desire Model)
Within the first couple of years I had major issues with the fuel injectors and she was backwards and forwards to the garage as would just cut out and refuse to move. This I believe has been dealt with.
Problem I'm now having is that the Engine Management light is constantly on and has been for over a year now on and off. She's been on the diognostic machine (at various garages, inc Citroen Dealerships) and no fault is found, the light is turned off yet after a while it comes back on - generally after a few days.
Now this wasn't too much of an issue as she's 8 yrs old and has only done 48,000 so has been barely used - until now! I'm now commuting to work and have noticed that when she is in fifth gear at 70 - 75 miles an hour on a flat road she is running at around 3,500 revs and my MPG is now 37.9.
She's never being an economical car but when she wasn't used much didn't bother me.
Could the engine management light actually be telling me of a fault which the garages can't find and is this why she's not economical?

Well it is worrying that you have a warning light on but the garage cannot diagnose what the fault is. Did they clear the fault (ie reset the ECU)?
Other than that we would suggest that it could be a number of things
1.Air intake/vacuum leaks
2.Ignition system
3.Throttle position sensor
4.Catalytic converter
5.Mixture adaptation
6.MAP (manifold absolute pressure sensor).
If running okay you should achieve around the 45 to 47 mpg with a CO2 emmision of 139g/km.
You may want to get them to check the emission figures.
