Choosing a used luxury sports car?

We are considering purchasing a used convertible sports car for touring in our retirement. Cars that appeal to us include the Aston Martin V8, Jaguar XK and Mercedes SL. Reliability, comfort and cost of ownership matter more than outright performance. Our budget is up to £50,000.

I love the Jaguar XK 5.0 V8. Not the XKR. Not the 4.2. The 5.0 V8. But, if you want a tin top over your head, then the 2006 - 2008 Mercedes SL500 with the enhanced power output. Not the Aston. They rust.
