I've had a problem with my S40 from new

I have issues with my S40, which it has had from new. Engine revs or surges at 1200 revs in first gear & reverse. Dealership says the onboard computer will put it right after about 3 months. 700 miles has been covered with no improvement.

You aren't driving it far enough so the engine has to rev to try to regenerate the DPF. If you were doing 1,000 miles a month this would not happen. For an average 250 miles a month you should not have bought a diesel.
