Ford Fiesta or Kia Rio?

I am struggling to decide between a Ford Fiesta Ambiente 1.6 TDCi (minimal specs) and the Kia Rio 1.25 Petrol (Slightly higher spec - add. Trip computer, cruise control, electric windows front and back, multifunctional steering wheel).

The Fiesta holds a certain appeal to me considering it's a diesel and would be economical. The Kia Rio however has better specs and comes in at about 2000 pounds cheaper in South Africa. I am South African.

However it's a petrol and I'm not too sure how economical it is going to be as you really can't trust the EPA ratings. Kia South Africa does not import the diesel models of the Rio which is a pity.

So my question is which car would offer cheaper maintenance, fuel economy and overall be a better deal in the long term. I travel a good distance to work (150km a day) and will be keeping the vehicle for at least 200,000km.

Maintenance of the diesel will make it more expensive in the long run. But the KIA it chain cam and will need regular oil changes. I think the KIA is the more solid car. Not as good to drive, but more solid.
