Downsizing wheels in an S80?
I read in your newspaper column your reply to ED,Filey regarding replacing existing wheels with a smaller size.
I have a Volvo S80 with 225/50/17 tyres, I am thinking of changing the rims and fitting 225,215 or 205/60/16 tyres.
Is this sensible, would the ride improve, would the road-holding/braking be affected and which size tyre would you choose?
As regards alloy wheels I've noticed a huge price difference between products. I'm looking for wheels that will stay in good condition for years, is price a good guide to longevity?

My BMW 320dED is on 205/60 R16s and they undoubtedly absorb sharper imperfections in the road surface in a car that has basically quite stiff suspension. In a softer Volvo S80 they should be even better.

Very comfortable seats and excellent ride quality. Feels like a solid and well made car.
