Hiring a car in Italy - confused.

Two ladies wish to hire a car from Perugia airport. We have tried several sites but are very confused about the insurance. We cannot afford to pay too much but do not want to end up with a bill for damages either. Some seem to have an excess of about £900 and all charge extra for a second driver. Can you advise the safest way to do this please. We are away from 17th -26th September.

The safest way is to take the insurance package offered by the car rental company. Then they won't "find" any damage to hold you liable for. Be very careful not to commit any minor traffic offences or parking offences or entering restricted areas. These have a nasty habit of following you home from Italy after the car rental company charges you to reveal your identity to the authorities.
