Cam belt replacement due on my Golf at 40k?

Martins of Andover have recommended, from their records rather that a check on the vehicle, that we replace the cambelt on our 58 VW Golf Match TDI 105 (1896cc), which has done 40,000 miles. Do you agree and is their quote of £299 inc VAT a fair price?

Standard, but if the waterpump is driven by the timing belt, that also needs replacing.

Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
