A diesel for performance, reliability and resale value - what do you recommend?

I want a diesel saloon and have decided between the Skoda Octavia vRS td 170 bhp or a the Lexus IS220d F-Sport 177 bhp. Which one would you reccommend as the better car for performance reliability and resale?

Presumably buying used because by far the best diesel car in this class is the £28,000 BME 320d ED that really does do 66mpg. Though high geared, it's also flexible which is something the Lexus isn't. Not keen on VAG's belt-cam 2.0 litre diesel.
