Diesel turbo failure
My father has a 2004 plate Espace 1.9 diesel on which the turbo has apparently failed (or is failing) - there is a lull at approx 1900-2000rpm almost as if the engine is missing. Mileage is approx 134k (new engine replacement at 94k) and he has been quoted £1100 for a replacement. I'm guessing this is down to the usual turbo failure due to not allowing the engine to tick over for a couple of minutes before switching off - or is there a known problem of turbo failure on this particular engine

Standard problem with a turbo at this sort of mileage for the reason you suggest. Vital for all oil pipework to be replaced at the same time because that often gets blocked by carbonised oil.
