Gearbox failure on a Jaguar X-Type

I have a Jaguar X-Type that has done 150k mls and has now suffered gearbox failure. Only gear possible is reverse. Costs to even have a look are expensive. Is a replacement gearbox available or even worth while?

Has the transmission failed or simply the linkage failed?
