Decent buy for £7,500

I have been driving for 3 years now, owning a Peugeot 206 which has served me nicely. I have 3 years no claims with Aviva.

Since my brother now drives, the time has come for me to buy a car of my own, since sharing has become a bit of a problem now.

I was just wondering what your views are on Golf TDI's as cars for a 21 year old male?

Secondly, I have a budget of around £7,500 to buy a used car, so are there any that you might recommend? I was thinking along the lines of VW Golf, Ford Focus, or possibly a Mini if I can find one for a good price.

Generally the PSA/Ford 2.0 HDI/TDCI has been a lot more reliable than the VAG 2.0TDI.

We are buying a second hand Golf as a second car due to expanding family. We don't do many miles so need a petrol. We are deciding between a 122 TSI or 160 GT TSI (both Mk 6). Do you have any opinion?...
My daughter lives in Croydon and is looking to purchase a used car Focus/Golf type, petrol and budget £7000 max. I live in Derby and wonder if it would be advantageous to source one from this area.
