Intermittent start problem with a 97 Astra

This one is driving me nuts. The car was running fine. It started fine and then suddenly it wouldn't turn over. We bump started it and it worked fine but it still wouldn't turn over at all. The lights didn't dim. The starter didn't seem to be taking any power at all.

So it sat over night and started fine 3 times and then it stopped turning over again. It seems like a dodgy connection to me. I used to work on my own cars with haynes manuals back in the states but here in the UK I don't have any tools and never even looked at a diesel. Any ideas on what this could be? Where is the starter motor/solenoid/switch located?

The starter motor/soleniod, is located at the bulkhead side of the engine, very difficult to access, to remove you will need to gain access from underneath the car. Given what you have described it could well be a connection /soleniod problem.
If you are going to try to access repair/remove then if you go to the follwing it ay help.
